Illusionary Reality

Collaboration with Zara Glaser

Illusion and reality collide. When will self-perfection ever reach satisfaction? How many more tools are out there to be discovered, stumbled upon or invented? The realistic answer would probably be: never.

With a camera we possess the perfect tool of illusion, to create who we want to be and what we want to show inside that frame. Is it a logic step, to use a make-up, specialised in the perfect “light confusion” for “creating a perfect backdrop to highlight facial features through the camera lens”?

The look through the camera becomes almost brutal, seeing in such detail what the make-up doesn’t manage to hide. We find this goal of beautifying in many different methods and the outcomes couldn’t be more different.

However, it always feels detached from reality, creating an illusion of a fantasy of ourselves.
